There are many advantages to renewable energy but the biggest and most important one to think of is our future. Renewable energy resources can be replenished in a short period of time, naturally. This means we can never run out of a renewable energy source and we can depend on it to continue to provide energy to us again and again. When you consider the long-term benefits of this type of energy, you want to be sure that the ability to harness any type of energy is possible. While there are many forms of energy out there, some are simply too costly or difficult to use. Luckily, most are not.

Here are some of the major advantages to renewable energy:

• Conserve natural resources; this means less of a dependency on foreign governments for oil, more crude oil, natural gas and coal left for future generations
• Do not emit greenhouse gases, keeping the environment clean and free from air pollution, keeping the ozone protected from depletion and keeping the quality of life at a high level.
• Reduce dependence on fossil fuels, which in turn means less worry about when fossil fuels do run out.

You can see that the advantages of renewable energy are vast and there are many reasons why we should continue to study it to prepare for our futures. How do these advantages of renewable energy affect you, the average person, though?

As you consider the many types of renewable energy, take into consideration how you would benefit from this.

• When renewable energy is used, instead of using fossil fuels, for example, there is a readily available supply. This means that prices for renewable energy sources will remain steady, unlike the cost of crude oil, which continues to rise on the fear that oil reserves are low.
• Cleaner air means healthier living. Air pollution is one of the largest reasons that people develop chronic illnesses and even fatal illnesses like lung cancer. With the help of cleaner air, asthma cases will fall, too.
• Long-term environment protection. This is one of the most important advantages of renewable energy. Habitats for animals are left untouched or even repaired from previous destruction. The environment remains clean and the quality of life rises.

These are just some of the advantages of renewable energy you will find today. When it comes to making a choice to choose renewable energy or others, you can see just how important these advantages of renewable energy are and therefore you’ll be able to implement them more readily in your life.

Climate change global warming issues have made worldwide headlines. Every concerned citizen is now tuned in to climate change global warming information, issues, and ways they too can help solve the situation. However, the status of governments throughout the world is not equal in terms of greenhouse gas emissions and the ability to pay for the solutions to repair the effects of climate change global warming.

Climate change global warming may be a universal issue touching even the small island nations in Asia and the Pacific but it is the Northern Hemisphere, the developed nations that are the leading producers of greenhouse gas emissions. These nations also have more money to combat the problem.

Third world nations are seeking justice and equity proposing that all people of the planet earth should be treated in the same way regardless of whether or not they are a poor nation incapable of battling the causes and effects of climate change global warming on their own.

To level out the playing field, it has been suggested that greenhouse gas emission reductions should be based on the size of the nation and its capacity to contribute making room for allowances where necessary. This feeling is endorsed by many developing nations and the European Union. Unfortunately, this take on justice and equity is not necessarily endorsed by all the United Nations member nations.

The biggest dissenter at the Kyoto Protocol was President George Bush of the United States, who insisted that developing nations should be equally responsible for cleaning up the environment and should be held accountable for the same level of commitment to greenhouse gas reductions. Yet, it is the developing nations who are doing the most polluting. The balance is not equal and the trays are weighted down heavily on the side of the weakest offenders.

Going back to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, signed and ratified in 1992, by the United States and many other world nations, it was then agreed that “common but differentiated responsibilities” would apply for all nations. Developed nations account for 80% of the total carbon dioxide emission released into the atmosphere.

The United States is responsible for over 50% billions tons of climate change global warming pollutants, while the countries with the largest population, China and India produce 19.9 billion tons combined. Demographically, the largest climate change global warming offenders represent only 20 percent of the world’s population. The fallout from these greenhouse gas emissions produced by the west is jeopardizing the health and safety of greatest populations found in the poorer countries of the East. These countries of the East are also battling tremendous debt and poverty.

Indoor air quality may not be something that you think about often. For people with allergies or respiratory problems, though, indoor air quality is a very important thing. There is a link between indoor air quality and energy efficiency that can help people who need clean indoor air to breath better in their own home.

Importance of Indoor Air Quality

People with allergies or respiratory problems struggle to breathe in bad air conditions. On days when the air outside is very polluted and warnings are issued these people stay inside because going outside could be harmful to them or even fatal. They must have clean indoor air in order to simple be able to breath.

This is something that your average person takes for granted, but for those people with problems it is a serious issue. Having clean indoor air can be a struggle. Outside air leaking in can spell trouble. They have to be able to make sure their indoor air quality is at a high level. This is where indoor air quality and energy efficiency some together to help out.

How Energy Efficiency Helps

The link between indoor air quality and energy efficiency is important. Energy efficiency involves sealing off door and windows to make the home virtually free of drafts or air leakage from the outside. An energy efficient home will have far less outside pollution coming in than a home that is not brought to energy efficiency standards.

This can greatly help people who have problems. The polluting air is kept outside and the air quality inside the home is at a very high quality level.

Additionally, appliances that are energy efficient will release less toxins into the air which another contributor to bad indoor air quality. Using energy efficient appliances helps the indoor air quality even more.

Making an Energy Efficient Home

If you need to make your indoor air quality better through energy efficiency here are some things you can do:

- Seal all doors and windows. Look for light coming in and seal those crack and gaps.
- Buy energy efficient appliances. Especially air conditioners which have the energy star logo as these will help filter air before it comes into the house.
- Have your home checked through free services. In many areas energy companies offer free testing of homes to help pinpoint areas that need repaired or to find areas where energy efficiency could help.

Indoor air quality and energy efficiency go hand in hand to help make sure that the air in your home is clean and free form pollutants. For those with breathing problems this could be the answer to air quality problems. Energy efficiency could be the solution you need to breathe better in your own home.

For environmental purposes sustainable development with mining allows workers to excavate raw materials from the mines around the world in a responsible manner. In the past mining was more dangerous than it is today. It is still a dangerous profession, though much safer than before the days of sustainable development with mining practices. The process of mining causes pollutants to be produced, which is always a major concern; sustainable development with mining is a concept that allows for extraction of the earth’s elements with protective measures in place.
The byproducts released in mines are hazardous; sulfur and arsenic are deadly if released around or near the workers. The practices of sustainable development with mining involve that the miners must wear gas masks when their gas measurement instruments show that the air has unsafe levels of toxic gases. People working in mines now days have safety chambers they can go to in case of danger, which is the brainchild of sustainable development with mining safety. Mine workers throughout history have risked their lives to make a living; while mining is still a dangerous profession, it has been made much safer through sustainable development with mining.
Many of us don’t even realize where the products we use come from. The raw materials, minerals and metal ores, that have gone into the making of our homes, automobiles, recreational vehicles, and appliances were mined from deep inside the earth. Mining is a dangerous job because in order for a mine to exist means that the earth and its aeration and water systems had to be disturbed. Sustainable development with mining attempts to stabilize the mining structures within the earth, keeping workers safe. Miners are equipped with monitors that alert them when when there is an oxygen deficiency, or toxic and explosive gases. Through sustainable development with mining, closed circuit breathing machines were developed so that the miners can breathe clean air in a potentially polluted environment.
Much care is taken to locate mineral sources and extract them with minimal disruption to the environment. When a mine is no longer in service the land is then reclaimed. The land is re-vegetated, and in some ares lakes are formed for recreational use; the new lakes are then stocked with bass, sunfish, bluegill and other kinds of fish. Through efforts related to sustainable development with mining, the land and the ecology is restored. By restoring the land after a mine is no longer in use, the environment is restored; however, preserving the environment is not the only reason—it prevents people from entering the abandoned mine and getting hurt, and since the attacks of 9/11 restoring the environment ensures that the old mine cannot be used as a hiding place for terrorists. Whether a mine is in operation or no longer in use, safety and security are a major concern for everyone.

One of the best ways to appreciate the many different aspects of nature’s beauty is through nature photography. Talented amateur and professional photographers seek to bring their subject to life for the viewer with their nature photography. This article will focus on the style of two very different photographers, Ansel Adams and Frans Lanting.
Ansel Adams
Ansel Adams had a productive and influential 60 year career in nature photography. Adams specialized in black and white photographs. His subjects included close ups, still lifes and, perhaps his most famous landscape subjects. Some of his famous nature photography includes:
• Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico: This black and white photo is of the moon rising over a village with snow covered mountains in the background.
• A series in U.S. National Parks: Adams was the first nature photographer to photograph in all of the U.S. National Parks. His works included photographs of Old Faithful Geyser, Grand Teton and Mount McKinley.
It is also important to note that Adams was a skilled writer. He used his writing and his considerable influence to further the cause of environmentalism.
Frans Lanting
Fran Lanting is another talented individual in the field of nature photography. He is considered one of the best nature photographers of our time. Much of his work focuses on wild life across the globe. He advocates for preservation of nature and protection of different species through his remarkable work.
His work is often presented in some of the world’s leading magazines such as National Geographic. Some of his contributions include:
• National Geographic April 2008: Lanting contributed a piece, complete with groundbreaking research, on chimpanzees in Senegal.
• National Geographic February 1999: This issue focused on Lanting’s year long project to capture earth’s biodiversity at the end of one millennium and the beginning of another.
One of Lanting’s greatest accomplishments as an expert in nature photography is the LIFE project. LIFE is a multimedia production about the history of life on Earth.
No two nature photographers have exactly the same style. Nor do they capture the same images. That is to the benefit of people who enjoy nature photography. This earth has so many different breathtaking landscapes and awe inspiring animals that it would be impossible to see them all in one lifetime. Nature photographers allow us to glimpse a piece of the earth or an animal that we would not otherwise see. Photographers such as Adams and Lanting allow us to marvel at the beauty of their art and learn about different places because of their remarkable skill in nature photography.

There are so many different global warming effects it is pretty difficult to count them. Each source that you investigate will offer some known global warming effects but not every site can count all of them. Furthermore, new studies are continually bringing out new global warming effects.

We have all heard about climatic changes and each of these climatic changes causes changes in the earth, animal, vegetation, and quality of living. Every area of our life will be affected. Some of these changes are visible now and some are yet to be determined.

What we do know is that climatic changes will affect the food chain. In terms of agriculture many crops will become obsolete in certain areas of the world causing famines. However, many people scoff it off dissociating themselves with famines, droughts and the poor. Wealthier people do not foresee their life styles changing all that drastically, but global warming is just that, a global problem. Climatic changes do not distinguish between the rich and the poor, and will affect the cup of rice a day refugee as well as the wine connoisseur.

Global warming effects of climatic change will target light and dry wines. They will cease to exist on the market or be drastically changed in content and taste. Grapes are very sensitive to climate conditions. If the weather becomes too warm, the nature sugar content in grapes develop faster. Growers owning vineyards in California in the United States and France in Europe will be faced with a critical decision; to harvest the crops faster and therefore create a new flavor that will be so sickly sweet it will resemble the taste of jam, or leave the grapes on the vine longer risking a higher alcoholic content.

The climate changes have already hit the pinot grape. Imagine no more Pinot Noir? These thick-skinned grapes must grow in cooler temperatures. Growers in Oregon are seeing the affects of the sun on the pinot’s rich berry flavor.

The entire Bordeaux wine region of France may lose its lustrous qualities for producing this world famous wine. A life without Bordeaux might mean a life of boredom for some wine aficionados.

What is a good wine without a good dinner? However warming temperatures are depleting the wild Pacific salmon, and lobster populations. Escargot may become a thing of the past, and even your basic codfish dinner direct from the North Sea will become a distant memory. Many aquatic species are not adapting well to warmer waters.

While we whine about our wine around the Christmas tree to toast the festive occasion, we might have to whine about not having a traditional pine tree as well. Global warming effects are creating a breeding ground for pine bark beetles, which were once controlled by the frigid British Columbia weather. Now there populations are out of control, infesting the pine trees and killing them.

Wine is too rich for your taste you say, well how about some pretzels and beer? Your favorite bartender would offer you some complimentary mixed nuts but guess what, scientists are predicting a decline in walnut and California grown almonds. The crops are expected to yield a 20 percent decline in their harvest within the next four decades.

Somehow that refugee holding his daily ration of a cup of rice is not all that isolated after all. Food and beverage shortages affect all of us.

Microbial ecology is an important study that looks at the relationship that the microorganisms living throughout Earth have with the environment around them as well as their relationship with each other. In this study, all three major domains of life are considered. This includes Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukaryota and also looks at viruses. You may be wondering what the importance of microbial ecology is. The fact is, these very small microorganisms are found in virtually all areas of the environment, including the most extreme conditions such as lakes of acid and deep within the ocean.

Microbial ecology is quite fascinating. You will find that this study focuses on the composition as well as the physiology of these tiny beings. In doing so, people seek to learn more about how they live and what they do that affects the world around us. Most scientists believe that microorganisms cover the entire world in some form. Yet, knowing they are there is only the start. The fact is, it is estimated that scientists and researchers only know about a small fraction of them, just one percent even.

These diverse creatures are powerfully important to the rest of the planet. Microbial ecology studies this importance. Microorganisms are known to be able to withstand some of the harshest of environments. For example, you will find them in high temperatures even those that are over 100 degrees C. Additionally, microorganisms have been found in geysers, in oil wells and in high saline locations, or water that is high in alkalinity or acidity. The importance of these small creatures is evident in the way they affect the whole biosphere. They are often called the backbone of the zones where light is not found.

How is microbial ecology important to conservation and environment protection? There are several ways, but microorganisms are readily used in situ microbial biodegrading. For example, they are often used to help break down pollution that is found in soils and sediment. They can also be used in marine environments to improve the overall quality of the location. Since they are able to degrade toxic waste, they are incredibly important.

A good example of how microbial ecology works is in an oil spill. Since petroleum oil is a toxic chemical, and therefore destroys the environment, these organisms can be used to rectify the situation. They can rebuild the area by removing the oil pollution from the natural habitats.

Microbial ecology is a science that’s always being studied. With the understanding of this type of microorganism, scientists hope to be able to improve the overall well being of the planet.
